Notts Ladies O65 Team Report
At the start of the season, we were asked if we would remain in Division 1. This would mean two singles matches and a doubles match in round one and then the two singles players pairing up with two doubles games being played in round two. There was a total of five possible rubbers to be won.
Unfortunately, early in the season injury struck and we lost our number one singles player. Fiona Palmer and Gillian Reynolds quickly agreed to play at number two singles and Renée Parker had to change from playing number two singles to number one singles.
Renée quickly discovered quite a difference in the level of play from playing at number two last year. However, despite losing all her singles matches had great fun and made sure that her opponents had to work very hard for their win. Gill Reynolds held her own in her singles matches and was close to a win against Norfolk. Fiona Palmer played brilliantly, winning her singles rubber against Shropshire and gave us our best chance of a match win. Unfortunately, we lost in a closely fought match two rubbers to three, with Fiona and Renée pairing up to win their doubles.
The players were Sheila Chilvers, Stephanie Smith, Gillian Reynolds, Ann Brown (returning from injury), Fiona Palmer and Renée Parker. Heather Dowcett, was also part of the squad.
We had several practice sessions during the season which we enjoyed and plan to continue over the winter. We are looking forward to next year and are already planning our campaign!
