Three years ago, the team formed and won a Covid restricted regional league. The success continued on the court, moving through the divisions to reach the top; Division 1.
Off the court the success has been engaging a group of players back to representing the County as well as giving well received debuts. Increasing the squad each year has helped when short, especially since we have such depth and quality to choose from.
It also, at times created a welcomed headache of having too many players available and eager to play.
The squad was again bolstered this season with the arrival of County Cup stalwart, Jamie Drummond joining the age group.
The season started strongly with victories over Cambridgeshire and cross border rivals Leicestershire. This set up a title decider against last year’s National Champions, Cheshire.
A tough encounter came down to the doubles where both could have gone either way. Back and forth tiebreaks went to the wire, both falling Cheshire’s way.
Although disappointing, the team did finish runners-up in Division 1, which is a great achievement for a County of our size and resources.
Thank you to Nottinghamshire Tennis for supporting the players and County Cup tennis.
Thank you to David Lloyd West Bridgford for kindly allowing the team to play matches at their fantastic facility.
Thank you to a great squad of players who committed to achieving success over the last four seasons, putting Nottinghamshire back to where they belong, at the top level of County tennis.
We will be back again next season, strong in the belief we can claim the top spot.
Jason Revill
